King Size Sham(s)

I really needed shams to go with my Single Girl, but they weren't going to be exact matches......just something to coordinate.

I dug out all the scraps and leftover binding and here is what I came up with so far:

Bye Bye Google Reader, Hello Bloglovin’

This is kind of a techy post, so I’ll make it short and sweet. Don’t use Google Reader as your reader? Then you’re fine! But if you do, I recommend switching to Bloglovin’.
I have no clue why Google Reader is soon to be gone. But, I have made the transition to Bloglovin’ to read up on the blogs I follow. It was actually super simple and literally took all of 3 minutes.
You just create a Bloglovin’ account and in the process it asks if you want to import the blogs you read on Google Reader to your new Bloglovin’ account. Click the button to import and that’s it!
The platform looks similar to Google Reader…

Modern Yardage four-sided placemats

Here is what I made with my Modern Yardage fabric from the Personality line in the Carefree color range by Emilie Daly:

It is one placemat with four different looks!  This way, I can use whichever design I like on a certain day!

This is the Dancing Dots in Calm print in large.

This is the Ombre Stripe in Fiesty print in large.

This is the Burst in Crystal print in large.

And this is the Whimsy in Storm print in large.

I'm sure we will be using these on the deck a lot this summer!  This pattern is Four-sided Placemats by Several Settings in Hampstead NH.  Your local quilt shop may have the pattern but HERE is one place I found online where you can order the pattern/template.

 was a great fabric to use for this project.  It worked will to fuse the interfacing and was just the right hand to turn and hold it's shape.  I am very happy with my set of placemats!

Modern Yardage and my sewing space

Have you heard of Modern Yardage?  I am learning more about it every day.  They are unique in their fabric, ink and layout.  You can learn what the difference is by going here. 

I am giving some of their fabric a test drive today and this is how it arrived:

This is 4 half-yard cuts for a total of two yards.  You can order any amount and size of print.  These are all the large print size.  On the side are washing instructions, some advertising and that cute faux cathedral window print.

You'll see what I made in a few days.

We had overnight guests, so my sewing space is ALL cleaned up.  I just read Leona's post about her sewing space at Leona's Quilting Adventure and thought I would give you a peek at my little space.

 First is my sewing table, machine and thread. Behind the closed sewing cabinet door is my serger and a fold out table to set it on so I can both sew and serge on the same project.  My bulletin board/ chalk board is made from a wooden ironing board.  The mini quilts above are from some special friends, swaps and one I made.  I am sitting on the bed for this photo.

 Next I want to show my storage cabinet for my fabric; I am pretty happy about this find.  You will see it is two-sided.  I found it on craigs list; it was from a closed Border's Book Store.  It has glass doors so I can see all my fabric at a glance but it stays dust free.  This side has some pre-cuts and some of my special pieces of fabric.

On the end I have a few hooks where I can hang things and a little shelf to display some too.  On the wall is a banner my daughter brought from Oktoberfest and my thread.

And this is the other side of the same cabinet.  Fabric by color on the first three shelves, larger cuts and some collections on the other two shelves.  I may have expanded my storage to the top of the cabinet with a button jar, sewing basket, books and a stack of fabric.

May Mid-Century Modern bee blocks

I finished my bee blocks for May.  The block is called Stacked Bricks and the tutorial by The Sometimes Crafter and modified by Linda to work as a border on a quilt she is finishing.

It sure was fun to go through the scrap basket looking for the great colors Linda wanted in her block.  Yes, she asked for Kona Ash on one side of the block and Kona White on the other.

Our town had their annual celebration over the weekend and we attended the parade on Saturday evening.  This is the first panorama view I've taken and liked how it turned out.

There were eleven marching bands in the parade and the one I marched in while I was in high school is just coming up on the left.

Week 2 of Zakka Along 2.0 Patchwork Please

Week two of Zakka Along 2.0 of Patchwork Please is Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Towels.
Another fun project, but it took me way longer than I wanted to spend on one project.

I used Essex yarn dyed linen/cotton in flax and a small red and white stripe from Simply Sweet by Barbara Jones of QuiltSoup for Henry Glass for the binding.  The applique was all done out of scraps.  I see some of the light yellow and green don't show up well in the bright sun.

 I used fusible raw edge for the applique and zig zagged with invisible thread.

They will be a great gift and I'll make more if I can figure out how to get faster at the zig zag and tying off the threads on the back.

Next week's project is a tea cozy and the week after a teabag pouch so I think I'll skip both of those as I don't have anyone that I know that would use them.

Modern Mini Quilt Challenge

I am entering this pillow I made for PTS10 in the Modern Mini Quilt Challenge at Ellison Lane Quilts.

 It is 20" X 20" appliqued clams onto a base cloth and then hand quilted with No. 8 perle cotton.
