You would think it was a fast finish then right? Well, not so much. I attended an amazing workshop with the incredible Jackie Gering of Tallgrass Prairie Studios last fall and learned her technique for machine piecing the hexagon. I finished piecing it at retreat last October and it sat until I based it in July.
I finally got busy quilting it and I am so happy with the finish. The hexagons are five inches diameter finished. The quilt finished at 62" X 80".
Here it is for Finish It Up Friday:

So pretty! Love the colors. I machine-pieced a hexi quilt and by the end I wasn't sure whether EPP would have been faster!
How pretty! Machine piecing hexies seems totally do-able.
Your quilt turned out fabulous! I would say it is a fast finish! (Only because I still have to finish piecing mine!)
I love this quilt and am so excited that I have all these Denyse Schmidt prints... though I am not sure about machine piecing hexagons!

This is so sweet - cozy up to the fire and read a book sweet.
Whoa! Love it. Just popped over and read the tutorial. I would so need a class on how this works. I don't get it from reading it.
Lovely. Gotta love a machine pieced hexagon quilt.
Lovely! Outstanding in every way :-)
Wow Mary. Saw this over on Flickr . It's amazing to me to piece hexies on the machine. I've been doing them by hand for about 13 years : ) . Lovely
Wow, its fab and I'd just love to be able to successfully sew hexies on my machine - after the first hour or so I lose my ability to make my seams match! Gorgeous quilt :-)
How gorgeous.
Just gorgeous Mary...was it hard to machine piece? Lots of stopping and starting, jumping over seams?.
I have only ever hand pieced hexagons.
Great finish, and I love the colours.

It's beautiful Mary!!!! I love how you did the sides/borders. That's a lot of hexagons!!! I finally finished piecing my hexie top today, but it doesn't have as many hexagons...thank goodness! Happy Friday!
Your quilt is beautiful! Love the way you quilted it!
This is so pretty! I love the colors! I've never tried to piece whole hexagons, but I love them so I imagine that I will try it some day.
Mary its gorgeous!
Oh it is just beautiful! I love hexies and the fabrics you used are great. You are so lucky to have taken a class with Jackie. Thanks for sharing this wonderful quilt.
what a pretty quilt, Mary. The navy really pulls your eye around the design. Great finish!
Great finish Mary! Hexies are popular among MCM bee ladies today!
Wow! Machine piecing seems like the only way I could get something larger than a pillow completed with hexies! Congrats! Lovely mix of blues!
Pretty in the blue and green combo -- my fave. I also love all of your DS fabrics. Congrats on a beautiful finish.
I love it and the DS prints are fabulous in it. Great finish!
Gorgeous...now I wish I had more if those wonderf blues!
Your hexie quilt is just amazing! I have done EPP hexies, but never machine pieced. This is a great finish. Have a lovely weekend.
Your quilt is beautiful. I really like the subtle colors wandering through. Just wondering if everyone in the Mid Century Bee is making hexies lately because this is the third post from bee members today about hexies. I still have not made any . . . maybe I better get with it. And thanks for the great bee block Mary. It came yesterday and is just right. Love it.
Gorgeous and so quaint looking. Thanks for sharing!
Very beautiful love the fabrics and colors you chose.
Gorgeous quilt, love your fabric choices. I started a mschine pieced hexagon quilt for my daughter ages ago, I must go and find it!
machine piecing hexagons! pretty cool and I love the fabrics.
Mary, did you sew Y seams? I saw a video the other day where the hexies were half hexies and were sewn in rows. I thought yours might have been done that way but when I looked at your closeup shots I could not see any seams in the center of each hexie.
Wonderful quilt, such lovely colours!
Hugs,
Tatyana
Wow! I am so impressed and so inspired! I won a bundle of hexagon cuts and don't know what to do with them. Now I know. Now just to find out how to do it! I think this means the dreaded "Y-seam"? I'm sure it gets easier after the first few.
i am doing hexagons too... mine are 2 1/2 inch finished on one side. Am doing all the Y-seams.
Yours is so pretty... good job!
I love this quilt! Beautiful!
