In Your Words

Today is day one of In Your Words blog hop and if you are stopping by my blog for the first time - welcome!

I'm glad we had lots of lead time to prepare for this blog hop because the instructions said:

"You will make one or more projects from fabric. Add  words (one or more) that reveal who you are or more about you. You might want to explain in your post just how your project does that, but it might be self-explanatory. The most important thing is that you have fun with it.  FUN shines through in what you do."

Well here is what I made and I had fun:

If you have followed my blog at all, you know my favorite job is being a grandmother, so I had to make something about that. I found this quote which I hope says what my grandchildren will always think about coming to our house.

2012 Wrap

It's fun to look back at what sewing I accomplished in 2012.  Here are some of my favorites:

I made this bib for Vincent using a free Moda pattern called Plow Time Bib:

 

It was a lot of fun to make but took a LONG time!

 

I remembered at the last minute there was a dolly without a quilt so I made this with a candy pack of A Walk In The Woods:

 

...along with some Sherbet Pips for the border and binding.

Merry Christmas!

More gifts...don't look if you are family!!

The first of many, many baby quilts.  Our family has added FOUR babies SINCE Vincent (September) and one more due before the end of the year.  This great aunt needs to make something for each one. 

This quilt is made using Savanah Bop by Thomas Knauer for Andover Fabrics and is my own design.  I used an embroidery image he provided to do the giraffe applique.  I also quilted it with pebbles to highlight the applique and meandering for the rest.  It has a very light weight batting and Cuddle backing in a soft yellow.

And then I made:



• two sets of pillow cases using Michael Miller gnome prints

• key fobs with Anna Maria Horner ribbon

• and a ruffled camera strap with a lens pocket

Gifts I've Sewn

Here are a few more gifts I've sewn:

• An owl pillow from a tutorial by Suzanne of Just Another Hang Up.

• Another Bapron from a tutorial by Jess of Craftiness is Not Optional.  Rather than two layers of fabric I used laminate again.  This one is Silent Cinema by Jenean Morrison for Free Spirit.

• This apron is from More Retro Aprons by Cindy Taylor Oates and the main fabric is Fiona' Fancy by Lila Tueller for Riley Blake.

 

• These two bags are lined drawstring bags from a tutorial by Jeni of In Color Order - fabric Holiday Happy by Monica Solorio-Snow and Happy by Jennifer Heynen for In The Beginning.

• Boxy Pouch tutorial @ It's a Pretty Modern Life & cosmetic bag tutorial @ Sew Like My Mom both from fabric by Alexander Henry.

• Six month size flannel Quick Change Trousers from Handmade Beginnings by Anna Maria Horner.

• A shirt length version of Schoolhouse Tunic by Sew Liberated and unidentified fabric.

• A car organizer using A Stitch In Color fabric by Malka Dubrawsky and tutorial from Moda Bake Shop.  I modified it slightly so larger books would fit.  It ties onto the back of the front seat so a toddler can reach items from their car seat.

And here is a shot of our house after the 14+ inches of snow.

 

Quilted Nap Sack

1. An elf (who happens to be the working mom of a 2 1/2 year old and 2 month old so therefore must be too busy to read her MIL's blog) told me that little Audrey would like a Nap Sack for Christmas.
2. I bought some A Stitch In Color fabric by Malka Dubrawsky a while ago knowing it would be just perfect for the right project
3. Walla - Moda Bake Shop recipe for a Quilted Nap Sack by Angela Yosten:

The only changes I made were to not include the sashings since Audrey is only two years old and to topstitch the sack closed on the outside with the binding showing rather than on the inside and then turn right side out. 

The  12" X 16" pillow form tucks into the "sham" that attaches at the top of the sack,  but I also made a removable pillow cover that can be washed.

Could there even be a more perfect fabric for this Nap Sack?
