Who knew the name of the fabric I'm writing about today would perfectly describe the weather right now here in Minnesota (44 degrees and fog)?
I was lucky enough to receive a bundle of Shades Of Winter by Greta Lynn for Benartex to make something to inspire you to use this beautiful fabric.
And......you can win a bundle too....keep reading.
I made this Firewood Tote:
I was completely inspired by Laura Wilson of the We Wilson blog. You can find access to her tutorial by going HERE. Thank you Laura.
I customized a few things:
First on the outside, I cut and used 2 1/2" strips of Shades Of Winter fabric and used the flip and sew method to attach to a piece of batting. I then reinforced by stitching 1/4" on both sides of each seam.
And the second thing is really just a tip: I used two layers of canvas cut from a drop cloth obtained at a big box store for the lining. I thought that would make it extra sturdy for using to hold cut wood and it cost under $10 with lots left to use on other projects.
And now for the fun part; if you would like to enter into a drawing to win a fat quarter bundle of Shades of Winter, you need to follow my blog (I will be checking) and leave only one comment per person below telling me what good deed your are going to do for another person during the next week.
Drawing will take place Sunday, December 13th & winner will be notified by email. No-reply Blogger's not eligible unless you leave email address in comment.
Sorry, only U.S. addresses for this win.
Thanks for stopping by.

What a great new fabric line and I like the idea of the wood tote, too. Not sure what deed will come up next week, but this past week I made a cover for a funeral urn for some dear friends who lost a loved one, this weekend I did a quick FMQ on a project for a neighbor at no cost, and I delivered some of our pine tree prunings to another neighbor who wanted them for wreath making for some local shut ins.
Great idea, thanks for the link! I'm planning on making a steering wheel cover for a coworker this week. I also think I'll be making this firewood tote for a friend who retired this past spring and moved to the mountains! She and her husband could surely use this!
Mary great idea. You know I already follow on bloglovin
I follow on feedly. Since I am 30 weeks pregnant and sick with bronchitis, my good deeds this week will be simple and close to home. Trying my best to be extra patient and kind with my kids and husband while feeling sick and grumpy.
What nice shades of fabric! I follow on Bloglovin'. Good deeds? I don't usually plan them ahead, I take opportunities as they come. Last week I helped a lady at the store maneuver two carts, looked up a phone number for a disappointed market customer, gave compliments freely and returned a lost item. We'll see what this week brings! :)
I follow your blog by email. This week I made a lap quilt for a friend who is having chemo. I just need to attach the binding and will be giving it to her this week. Matsche.christine@yahoo.com
Beautiful fabrics and what a great use for them! This week I'll be helping my neighbor work on her Allietare mystery quilt which will be fun!

This would be a GREAT gift for my father-in-law, and I always have a tough time finding the right thing for that man. He is 88 years old, lives a simple life but will outlive all of us i assure you! He carries firewood to his woodburning stove in his shop every morning. My good deed (and i may have bit off more than I can chew) is I am house sitting in a couple of days for 5 days, for friends of ours who have the sweetest dogs but they are GREAT DANES and they dont realize they are so big, they knock over everything. Plus I still have to babysit my 6 month grandbaby since they can not afford daycare right now. EVERYONE pray my Lupus doesn't do a sneak attack on me this week. ;)
I receive your emails.
I'm going to retreat this week and plan on helping people carry their things up and down the stairs. Then I'm going to babysit my granddaughters while my daughter in law is gone for training.

Wow, what a great carrier. Love the fabric. My good deed is helping my daughter pull of a large wedding shower for her best friend. We are preparing all the food, so this will be quite an undertaking. But I love this young lady, as she has become like a second daughter to me. Have a great week. And thanks for the giveaway!
I follow you by email. My good deed is I'm helping my friend reupholster her headboard! I know there will be more opportunities to help but I'm just not sure yet what they are!

Best looking firewood tote I've ever seen. Great tutorial too! Definitely would make for an excellent item for those that have wood fires in their homes, as well as for gifts for others. I definitely want to make one for my BIL/SIL. Thank you.

Late last year I gave the little girl next door a purse I made for her. She loved it. A couple of weeks ago her mom asked me if I would be willing to teach her daughter how to sew. We set up a time for this weekend and I'll start her out with a pillowcase. If she still shows some interest, I'm going to ask her if she'd like to make some potholders for her mom for Christmas. I follow your blog via email and BlogLovin.
That is a gorgeous line of fabric! And I love the wood carrier---we have a wood stove that we use every Winter---but would have a hard time dirtying it up carrying wood. :) I follow you on Bloglovin. No whining this week---my gift to everyone around me. :D

I'm pretty happy that we don't haul wood into the house. Although today is gray, cold and rainy. A fire in the fireplace would be wonderful. However, we deal with poor air quality and no-burn days...
I follow you on Blogger and on Instagram. This week I will play special attention to a friend of mine who struggles a great deal with time on her hands and nothing scheduled to do. I've felt somewhat neglectful after first, being out of town for a week; second, coming down with the crud after that (too many hugs and baby and kid kisses and out of state germs); and third, being preoccupied with the family and my brother-in-law who had a major stroke a week ago.
Such fun fabric! Thanks for sharing with some lucky follower. I took my son and dil to the airport Th night. The LA airport is always hellacious burst for some reason Th was awful. What should be 45 minute trip turned into over 2 hrs. And I am even going back to pick them up Monday mid day...wish me luck! Hugs Mary, isn't this time of year especially wonderful!
I follow on bloglovin. This week I will try to carry more of the load with household chores while my sweetheart has an especially busy work week.
