No, I haven't been traveling! I just finished my scrappy trip quilt which I named My Crazy Trip.
This quilt started out a a fabric pull from my stash to use in a little demo I was doing at a Minneapolis Modern Quilt Guild meeting. I made a sample if each step of the Scrappy Trip using the tutorial from Quiltville. I received great feedback from everyone on my unusual fabric choices so I finished this quilt.
It is 64" x72". And yes some of the blue bled into the border and backing which is Michael Miller Cotton Couture in Vanilla. I washed in cold water gentle cycle with two Color Catchers. Not happy about that.

I love it in blue Mary. I made a Christmas one with black and red and it was auctioned at my school last year for the breast cancer walk. Makes me want to make another one.
It's beautiful! I definitely know the disappointment of colors bleeding even washing it in cold with color catchers. I washed my latest quilt & the brown bleed. So all the white in the top isn't so white anymore. :/ I think it was the the wide back I used but the front has quite a bit of brown in it too.
That is gorgeous!! Blues always give me problems when I wash them too.
Try washing it again using Synthropol and very hot water.
Beautiful quilt!
I put red in a quilt one time because I wanted it to bleed for effect. Not one piece would bleed in hot water with no color catchers. Go figure.
Wanna trade? ;-)
I am not surprised you had some lovely comments. It is a wonderful quilt and the colours are great!
Your colour choice is great! What a shame about the colour bleeding! No real explanation, is there?
really great - I still want to make one of these, they look so fun!
It's gorgeous! I love your color choice - the darker blues. I just finished a light colored one for my daughter, but now I need to start one like this for me!
Hi!!!! It is beautiful!!!! Your fabric choices really pop!!! I love it!!!!
I love it, it is so different from others I've seen.
So sorry to know those blues bled. I'm a firm believer in pre-washing, even though many quilters think newer fabrics don't bleed. I've had too many fails, even with pre-washed fabrics! Nonetheless, your quilt is quite striking. Unusual prints, yes, but successful in put together in that quilt!
I think it's gorgeous and reminds me of "blended quilts." Sorry about the case of the runs. Maddening! I had that happen to a Christmas quilt -- all reds, greens and some pink. Almost no white. Pre-washed the fabric before use with color catchers. Washed the quilt after the holidays that year using a color catcher and the red bled. EEK!
Vicki at Field Trips in Fiber has a good blog post about getting bleed out...you can probably google to find it.
Great quilt. Sorry the blue bled. I am working on another Mini Trip. They are addictive. I love to sew up the blocks to see what they will look like.
Beautiful! I love the colors you used. I think I may gear up to make another one of these myself and seeing your is inspiration!
I've had bleeding too, even though I always prewash. Perhaps it will lighten in time? It looks terrific anyway. (One thing I do, and I don't know if it works better, is I tear my Color Catchers into thirds, with the hope that they will disperse better and "catch" more of a bleed. It's more of a superstitious thing than something I know works, though.) I'm adding this quilt to my must make list!
