Schoolhouse Tunic

I did some more garment sewing:

The pattern is Schoolhouse Tunic by Sew Liberated and the fabric is Liberty of London Tana Lawn.

Our quilt guild had a mini workshop during our meeting the other day and I made this teenie yoyo tree ornament.

Maybe I'll find time to make a few more before Christmas.

Little grandson Vince took a nap on my lap when we babysat last weekend.
He is growing up so fast.

Big sister Audrey was off to see the play Little Red Riding Hood with Mom and Dad.

Lets take a trip down Holiday Lane...

I knew as soon as I saw the Holiday Lane Pillow pattern what fabric I would use.
I made a Christmas quilt last year that we use on our sectional and it really needed a matching pillow.

Here it is on the back of my Christmas Quilt:

I added a few velvet bows to the tops of the trees.
Here is the quilt it matches:

Maybe the pillow shows up better here on the mantle:

I made the entire pillow out of 12 Days of Christmas by Kate Spain except for the snow on the roof.  For that I used white wool that I felted myself!

Here it blends into the quilt top:

It's hard to see, but I used a different quilting on each of the houses: stars, stripes, snowflakes etc.  I then used some special stitches on my machine to make the window sashings, the door knob and the wreath on the door.

A big thank you to Jill Finley from Jillily Studio Designs for designing the pattern for all of us to use, to Pauline for organizing this hop and to Madame Samm for everything she does.
Please go visit all the other Holiday Lane Pillow makers for today:

Sewing With Minky

I won three pieces of minky fabric from Amy Schimler's Fly Away line.  I squeaked out a shirt and a pant out of two of them for Audrey, but she left with them before I got photo.

I then made some minor adjustments and made a shirt out of the third piece.

Audrey loves these clothes because they are so soft.  I didn't have any ribbing that matched so I used the stretch of the fabric for the neck band and cuffs.  A serger is very handy but not necessary. I used the stretch stitch on my regular machine for applying the neck band and then serged it and stitched down the seam allowance with a double needle on my regular machine.  I used this also to hem the bottom and for the seam on the cuffs.
As for sewing with minky, it's messy (fuzz everywhere) and slippery, but I made this second shirt in less than two hours.

I'm linking up to Finish it up Friday at Crazy Mom Quilts!

Hexagon Quilt Top Finish

I usually like to only show a complete finish, but the quilting on this one may be a while so I am showing the top now.

It's 62" by 80" and was all rotary cut (not using a template) and machine pieced. The majority of the fabrics are DS Quilts from Joann Fabrics. The solid is Moda Bella Ice and is showing mostly white on these photos.
I took a class in September with Jacquie Gering of Tallgrass Prairie Studio. She taught us how to cut our hexagons with a 60 degree ruler and how to piece be machine. Yes, I am now a y-seam expert now! But I enjoyed the entire process and will be making more.

You might want to see our sweet grandchildren dressed for Halloween:

Vince in the caterpillar costume I made for him.

And sweet little Audrey as the pink butterfly (I purchased all but the antennae headband)! Audrey stayed overnight with us Friday until Saturday evening and we had the best time. She has renamed my sewing room: it is now "Audrey's Room"!!
