Unexpectedly Unavailable

With only one day notice, flew to DC with my sister and road tripped to Punta Gorda FL to help her finish furnishing and decorating her new condo. This is the view from the Lanai!

It is HOT, HOT, HOT here and sunny! The only sewing is some hexies that I will show next week.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

Stitch in the Ditch around 429, yes 429 Flying Geese

I am all finished with my Geese in the Forrest designed by Anina of Twittletails! Thanks for the great design Anina! It was quite the process and I am so happy with the results. I did the whole quilt from start to finish by myself.

I was not sure about borders or quilting, so I took my time. I decided on red Ta Dot from Michael Miller and then darkest green in the quilt with solid red binding.

For quilting, I stitched in the ditch around all 429 geese with red, green and white variegated thread, then also around the red dot border and finally three rows of green in the outside border fabric. And then I quit!

And here is the final finished quilt. Zoom in to see how crinkly sweet it is after washing and drying!

For those of you who have followed this Geese in the Forrest progress, you may remember that I had 46 blocks that were the wrong size and I needed to make them over. Well, here is how I used them - on the quilt back!

I've Got Mail

Ann from Noodlehead wrote a great tutorial for a zipper wallet and then had a giveaway of one of her creations! I won this one made of two awesome Amy Butler prints along with these two Halloween pony tail holders. So cute. Go check out Amy's blog. I think she creates something new every day!

Julie from Jewel's Arm Candy did a tutorial on some cute star blocks I wanted to try and then I won nine jelly roll strips of Simple Abundance!! How cool is that! Now I can try the star blocks. Go check it out - you may want to make some too.

I won this beautiful one yard piece of Aunt Grace 30’s print from Melisa at Sweet Home Quilt Co.. It will be so much fun deciding how to use it! Stop by and check out Melisa's blog and see all the great stuff she has in her store too.

Another Bag

I've been eyeing Arcadia by Sanae by Moda ever since it came out and got my hands on a jelly roll. I liked the jelly roll version of the Grids & Grommets by Indygo Junction so I put this together this weekend. I love it!! It's 10" by 12" and has a comfy cord covered handle that can either go over your shoulder or across your body if you pull one side all the way through. This one's for me.

I used a total of 13 strips (not including lining) so I have enough for a few more of these out of one jelly roll.

Finished my Sis Boom Pow Blocks

Haven't done much applique since I finished the center of the medallion of Comsati (my header quilt) so it was good to get back to it. I am just a beginner at applique.

Well Victoria ask for applique for the Sis Boom Pow blocks, so I got out my Easy Applique Blocks book by Kay Mackenzie and chose the vase. This cool book has a CD so I went to the index and chose my design and the size I wanted (so easy) and printed it out. I used the starch method for these.

Hope they work for the quilts Victoria is making. I sure had fun putting them together.

Carmella Hostess Apron!!

I also did some pattern testing for Karen of Venezie Designs. Here is the test apron I made (note Karen's final design is a little different).

Karen just added this pattern to her etsy shop. It's pretty cute, huh?

Darling Harbour Bag Fun

I tested the Darling Harbour Bag pattern for Linda from All Stitched Up.

Well now Linda has the pattern ready to sell and she chose my bag and my photo for the pattern cover!! The pattern is now available in Linda's etsy shop. It has great instructions and it is a very versatile pattern.

Quilt Festival

I took this out of the dryer at 11 PM last night so I could get this quilt into the Festival.

If you follow my blog, you know I love Swanky and I thought Spice Cake pattern was a great way to show off all the prints in the layer cake. The quilt is 68" by 88".

This quilt was nothing until I sent it to my great long arm quilter. Pay special attention to her amazing work on making this quilt sing!

Thanks to Amy for organizing this festival again.

SIS BOOM, POW!

My Jennifer Paganelli fabric pieces arrived today (I think they took a detour through Bird Island).

This is for the Block Gather organized by Victoria of Bumble Beans and I'm going to have a blast creating two applique blocks that Pow! or Wow!

See the Sis Boom Pow blog if you want to follow along!

Still Around

Not much posting, some sewing and lots of life stuff going on.

Took Mom and Dad (age 89 and 90) on a day trip to my sister's cabin last week! Stopped at the open air railroad depot on Lake Hubert near Nisswa, had lunch on the deck overlooking the lake and had a great day.

I tested an apron for someone - so fun and it turned out very cute.

Also tested a bag for someone and had a great time and an awesome bag to boot!

I've been stitching in the ditch on Geese in the Forrest for days and am nearly finished, but not sure if that quilt or another will be my Quilt Festival quilt. I'd better get going and decide as the other one needs binding!

Do you have your Quilt Festival quilt all ready to go?
