Happy Halloween from the Zombies

Made these "treats" to give to some little ones rather than candy:

I found the tutorial on the therm-o-web blog and had all the materials to make them.  I substituted the pom-poms for yarn because I didn't have any.

Something I embroidered for Quilt Market

My friend Victoria of Bumblebean Quilts asked me to do some embroidery for her to use in her quilts for Quilt Market.  Here is one of her embroidery designs that I completed for her:

Here you can see how she made it into a quilt with a pattern now available on Craftsy.
And you can get a free download of the embroidery pattern here!

Bloggers Quilt Festival

This quilt has been a LONG time in process and I am so happy to have finished it in time for the Bloggers Quilt Festival created by Amy of Amy's Creative Side.
The name of this pattern is Stars Over Fort Sumter by Bonnie Blue and I bought it and the fabric in Charleston when my daughter and son-in-law were living there.
It took a few years before I cut it out and then another few years before I started piecing it.
I knew once I finished it that it would need quilting that exceed my ability on my domestic machine so I sent it off to my longarm quilter with no deadline.
Once the date of the Bloggers Quilt Festival started popping up, I called her and asked if she could finish it by October 22nd.
I couldn't pick up the quilt until October 23rd and I just finished the binding this morning (October 24th). I love how it turned out.
The quilt is 85" X 85".
Thank you for stopping by to see my entry into the festival.

Too much going on!

I forgot to show off our new granddaughter Heidi Jane and the quilt I made for her:

She was born on October 3rd and weighed 9 lbs. She is three days old on this photo.

Here is the quilt I made for her:

I used the Scrappy Trip pattern for the first time and the fabric is Savanah Bop by Thomas Knauer. It looked too jumbled so a great friend (thank you Crazy Mom Quilts) helped work out the sashing and cornerstones!

Added a few more borders to my Marcelle Medallion

This is still one of the most fun projects I have done. Have to put it aside to make a few Halloween costumes and baby quilts.

Received my Strawberry Pincushion(s)

My Strawberry Pincushion Swap package arrived yesterday:

My swap partner was Heidi of Fabric Mutt blog.  The personalized pouch has the cutest strawberry lining too.  Thank you again Heidi.

This was a great swap and I may join again!

Strawberry Pincushion Swap

I joined in on the Strawberry Pincushion Swap on flickr as soon as I saw some of the inspiration photos.

The Bird Brain Designs pattern had caught my attention when someone in my guild has made some of the cute little items.

I ordered the PDF file and got started since I have a good collection of wool and perle cotton.

I also did some redwork on a linen tea towel.  This was lots of fun to put together and it went off in the mail today to it's new owner!

Purse Palooza

The follow was posted today at Sew Sweetness for the Purse Palooza, but in case you didn't see it there:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The stars were aligned to create this bag!
* Sara of Sew Sweetness asked me to join her Purse Palooza pattern review
* I had previously purchased the Ewe Old Bags pattern by
Primitive Pieces by Lynda
* I came to own seven boxes of recycled wool through an acquaintance of my Son

Here is what I made:

The pattern has instructions for making this bag from knitting and felting the background fabric, using felted wool (what I did) or using quilting cotton or decorator fabric.

 You will need:
- one of the backgrounds mentioned above
- one 60" leather strap
- 4 grommets (I made buttonholes instead)
- 1/2 yard of fabric for lining and pocket
- scraps of felted wool for applique

The pattern has four seasonal options:

The changes I made from the pattern were minimal.  I did assemble the lining leaving an opening, machine stitched and topstitched the lining to the bag rather than hand stitching it in.  This makes it much more sturdy.  I also added Pellon® SF-101 Shape Flex® fusible woven interfacing to the lining to make sure the bag kept it's shape.  My main bag fabric was from a wool coat - very heavy and thick.  This worked great.  I ordered the leather straps from an etsy store and it was reasonably priced.  The pattern pieces needed to be taped together and than you could choose the size you wanted.
I was very happy with the pattern result.

I would rate this pattern as an advanced beginner level.

Thanks for inviting me to join in the Purse Palooza Sara.  I hope readers try this bag and show us the results.
